(New Bedford) – Mayor Scott W. Lang announced today that this year’s enrollment period for the CLEAR PATH Program is November 1- November 30, 2009. The Clear Path Program, operating since 2003, provides snow clean-up assistance to physically disabled New Bedford homeowners. The program, funded by the City’s Commission for Citizens with Disabilities, is limited to the first 50 disabled homeowners who apply and submit medical documentation during this time period.
“This program is just one small way the city of New Bedford can offer assistance to persons with disabilities who do not have the resources to shovel their walks but need clear access for medical purposes. I encourage those who may be eligible for assistance to request an application.”
Mayor Lang thanked the Commission for funding the program and stressed that it is offered on a first come, first serve basis and that previous clients who are interested must reapply during this period.
To serve more than the first 50 applicants, the Commission is partnering with the City’s Department of Community Services “Operation Snow Bank: Snow Angels” Program that recruits and matches volunteers to help their elderly and disabled neighbors.
For more information or to request an application, call the City’s ADA Coordinator, Diane Figueira at (508) 979-1638 or email diane.figueira@newbedford-ma.gov.
