The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research (CMR) is proud to announce that 3 time Super Bowl winner, Troy Brown, will be the guest speaker at the CMR’s 10th Annual Celebrity/ Scholarship Dinner, March 30, 2010 at the Venus de Milo Restaurant in Swansea Massachusetts from 6:00-9:00pm. A VIP Reception will be held prior to the dinner at 5:00pm.
Originally from Barnwell, South Carolina, Troy Brown is one of the top football players ever in the Patriots franchise. Brown was drafted by the team in the eighth round of the 1993 NFL Draft. He is decorated with several record breaking achievements including being the all-time leading receiver for the Patriots with 557 career receptions. He broke the previous standing record of 534 receptions held by Morgan Stanley, in 2006. Most memorable was Brown’s post-season success making 58 catches in 20 playoff games. Brown is also recognized as the team's all-time leading punt returner with 252 returns. He is also the second highest ranking player in the franchise for receiving yards with a total of 6,366 yards throughout his career.
All of these achievements came with patience and time. Brown played in 192 games, which ranks him fourth on the franchise’s all-time games played list. He is also the 2nd longest tenured player for the Patriots, having played all 15 of his NFL seasons with the franchise before retiring in 2008. The current record is held by Steve Grogan with 16 consecutive seasons.
All of Brown’s efforts paid off. Brown was a five-time co-captain for the Patriots (2002-06) and earned Pro Bowl honors in 2001. He has also taken home three Super Bowl rings in his career. Most recently, Brown was inducted into The Boston Sports Museum Hall of Fame in June 2009 alongside Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling.
Brown is just as impressive off the field as he is on. Troy hosts the Troy Brown Football Camp for underprivileged kids, and has also been a national spokesperson for The United Way. The Patriots took notice in the admirable work that Brown continues to do by awarding him the Ron Burton Community Service Award in 2004 for his commitment to helping others.
The CMR Celebrity/Scholarship dinner is a great opportunity to meet one of the most influential ball players in football history. There will be a separate VIP Reception, which allows attendees to meet and greet with Brown. There is a limit of 75 tickets for the VIP Reception which are $75.00 each and will be hosted immediately prior to the dinner. At the dinner, guests will have the opportunity to hear Troy Brown speak about his life and career experiences. Troy will also hand out the scholarship awards. Dinner tickets are $75.00 each. Posters will be available for purchase to be signed by Brown at both events.
