“First, I would like to offer my warmest congratulations to the next Senator from Massachusetts , Martha Coakley. She ran a superb, issues-oriented campaign. It is more important than ever that those who believe in moving our nation forward with bold initiatives stand united behind her candidacy. There is so much at stake for our country, our state and our cities and towns. People from all walks of life need Martha’s strong and determined voice in the U.S. Senate right now.
Martha’s election to the Senate will create an opening at the Attorney General’s Office. I am now seriously considering entering that race after the special election on January 19th.
I would welcome the opportunity to bring the aggressive and innovative approach we have taken at the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office to the Attorney General’s Office. In Bristol County, we have attacked gun violence in bold new ways; we have demonstrated consistent investigative prowess by solving nearly 80 percent of our homicides and seven colds cases; fostered information sharing and multi-agency investigations among our local, state and federal law enforcement agencies; we have inaugurated a unique office-wide volunteer initiative involving mentoring, tutoring and coaching after work hours to bolster crime prevention; and we have implemented other similar, creative and succesful initiatives throughout the office.
I believe this kind of bold approach to the enforcement, protection and prevention imperatives at the Attorney General's Office is needed. I also believe that public safety is the preeminent function of government and I have spent my 10 years as a prosecutor fighting for greater public safety and greater justice for victims of crime.
Whether I run for election as Attorney General or re-election as District Attorney of Bristol County, these principles will stand at the forefront of my campaign.”
