Veterans Transition House

The Veterans Transition House (VTH) was established to provide hope in a safe, sober, supportive residence for homeless Veterans, and to assist those who desire to achieve rehabilitation, self-sufficiency, and reintegration into the community.

The VTH serves 52 homeless.  In addition, the VTH Graduate Programs provides housing for 17 additional veterans as well as operating Network House, a 10-bed civilian program.  The Women Veterans Transition House (WVTH) will provide a program for 10 female veterans.

Fred C. Macedo, Jr. is a graduate of Bishop Stang High School and attended the then Southeastern Massachusetts University. Presently, he is the editor of “Now Hear This . . .”, the VTH monthly newsletter; the Dir. of VTH Graduate Programs and the Coordinator for the Homeless Service Providers’ Network (HSPN).

Ornament, Southern New England’s Premier Rock Orchestra, will present a concert entitled “A Tribute to the Trans Siberian Orchestra” in the main auditorium of New Bedford High School on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 7:00 pm. The concert is sponsored by the New Bedford Veterans Transition House.

Ornament, an eleven-piece rock orchestra currently in their fourth year of touring, presents the music of the Trans Siberian Orchestra (TSO). Reproducing the actual shows performed by TSO on a smaller scale, they include narration, lights, smoke machines, lasers, and snow machines. Using music and narration to tell a story of the true meaning of Christmas, the show helps us all remember what the holiday season is truly about. This is a show appreciated by all ages and uses traditional holiday carols and songs sung to rock, blues and gospel music.

In the spirit of the holiday season, the concert will help raise funds to help support the various programs of the New Bedford Veterans Transition House. The House helps support veterans in the area by “giving them a hand up, and not a hand out.” The Ornament concert will begin at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm. Tickets are $10 per person in advance and $12 per person at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at the New Bedford Veterans Transition House on 20 Willis Street in New Bedford. For more info or ticket sales, please visit the Ornament website at www.ornamentband.com.
