The Lloyd Center for the Environment is pleased to announce the election of George R. Nelson, M.D., to a three-year term on the Center’s Board of Directors. A longtime supporter of the Lloyd Center, Dr. Nelson is a graduate of the University of Virginia Medical School, and completed his Internal Medicine residency at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y, and subsequent Harvard Cardiology Fellowship at the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. He is a recognized authority on heart failure and Cardiac Defibrillator therapy and was certified by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Specialists in 2006 for "Special Competency in Cardiac Pacing and Defibrillation Therapy." He was a founding partner in Cardiology Associates of Fairfield County (CT) and Director of both the Pacing Service and Cardiac Rehab Program at Norwalk Hospital (CT) prior to his recent retirement.

An avid outdoorsman and sailor, Dr. Nelson has resided with his wife Trish in the village of Padanaram since 2001. When asked to comment on Dr. Nelson’s joining the Lloyd Center board, Brodie MacGregor, Board Chair, expressed his enthusiasm for this appointment noting that, “George brings a new sense of vigor and determination to the board…we are indeed fortunate that he has decided to join our crew”.

Founded in 1978, the LLOYD CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT has achieved a well earned reputation for excellence in environmental research and education. Through its innovative outreach programs, it has established itself as a highly regarded leader in the ongoing effort to raise awareness of the area’s fragile coastal resources and the importance of protecting them.

Located on 55 acres of pristine salt marsh, maritime forest and wetlands, where the Dartmouth's Slocum River meets Buzzards Bay, the Visitor Center is open, at no charge, to the public, Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The “Osprey Room” Observatory, with its magnificent views of the Elizabeth Islands and Buzzards Bay, has been designated by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs as one of the Commonwealth's top fifteen “Special Places”.
