The Iceland Dance Company was founded in 1973 by the National Theatre of Iceland and continues to be the national dance company of the North Atlantic country. Since 1996 the company, under the artistic direction of Katrín Hall, has focused on an exclusively modern and contemporary repertoire, commissioning and nurturing Icelandic choreographers as well as those from Scandinavia and throughout Europe.

The company consists of twelve dancers, all sharing a background in classical training but retaining a pronounced individuality. Iceland Dance has given numerous outstanding performances in major international dance theaters and festivals worldwide including the Holland Dance Festival, the Gothenberg Theatre and Dance Festival in Sweden, the Basel Theater Festival in Switzerland, and Harbourfront in Toronto, as well as important performances in Beirut, Prague, Copenhagen, Brussels, Glasgow, Geneva, Vienna, and Berlin. ID offers an annual season of performances at the City Theatre in their home city of Reykjavík.
