Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts
Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts (JASM) raised nearly $67,000 at its 15th Annual IRONMAN Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 29th at the Tournament Players Club golf course in Norton, MA.
“This event is quite a draw for avid golfers,” said Ms. Paradis. “Participation means exclusive access to this exceptional course and its facilities, with 36 holes of no-waiting golf.”
The 52 participating golfers raised funds to participate in the Ryder Cup style tournament, with all proceeds supporting Junior Achievement programs that teach youth, grades K-12, about financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. Since its inception, the IRONMAN has raised over one million dollars, impacting a total of 35,000 students throughout Southern Massachusetts.
In addition to two rounds of golf, participation in the event included breakfast, lunch and dinner reception, where prizes were awarded for fundraising excellence, golf performance (such as closest to the pin and longest drive), and to the overall IRONMAN Champion. Prizes included items such as seats to Red Sox and Patriots games, tickets to the Deutsche Bank Championship tournament, Footjoy’s MyJoy golf shoes and much more, golfers in addition to a complimentary golf bag for all participants.
During the reception IRONMAN golfer, Acushnet Company employee, and JA volunteer teacher, Rob Schoening, presented a new award in honor of his father, Harry Schoening, who was involved in JA for over 35 years. This year’s plaque was awarded to the top JA IRONMAN fundraiser, Eric Carlson, who was also the West Team Captain.
“Harry loved golf and he loved JA” said Schoening during his presentation of the plaque. “He was involved in every way possible - as Board Chair, IRONMAN founder, classroom volunteer, and more. JA was just a natural way for him to give back – in a way that was educational for the next generation.”
Paradis said sponsor support was instrumental in the success of the event, specifically Staples as the Title Sponsor, Webster Bank as the Lunch & Dinner sponsor, and the many companies and individuals that contributed in-kind support.
