(New Bedford, MA) – (1/28/08) – The Schwartz Center for Children is teaming up with the New England Deafblind Project to host the third-part of a Massachusetts Four-Part Deafblind Training series. This training is being hosted by Holyoke Community College, Worcester Public Schools, Schwartz Center for Children, and Perkins Training Center.
Session Three, to be held at the Schwartz Center for Children on February 7, 14, 28 and March 6, will provide comprehensive, on-going assessment strategies for identification, implementation and program development of children and students who are Deafblind.
According to Center’s Day School Director, Kimberli Bettencourt, “ Our staff will be able to participate in workshops by leading professionals in the field of deaf-blindness. The participants will gain up to date knowledge of techniques, research and strategies that will better help them to program for our students with deaf-blindness. These workshops are always innovative and bring new, fresh information for our staff to incorporate into the curriculum.”
Providing this comprehensive training are three experts in the field of Deafblindness, Tracy Evans Luiselli, Ed. D, Lisa Jacobs, M.Ed, and Susan DeCaluwe, M.Ed.
The Schwartz Center for Children joins with New England Center Deafblind Project, Holyoke Community College, Massachusetts Commission for the deaf and Hard of Hearing – Western, MA, Worcester Public Schools – Vision Department/Deafblind Program and the Perkins Training Center in sponsoring this important training.
The Schwartz Center for Children is a non-profit agency established in 1947 by parents seeking services for their children and is the only free-standing pediatric rehabilitation clinic in New England. Since its founding, the Center has continued to grow to meet the needs of children through the Southcoast area. Its four major programs include Early Intervention, Private Day School, an Outpatient Rehabilitation Program, and a Regional Consultation Program.
The Schwartz Center’s mission is to help children reach their greatest potential. It is able to do this through strong community support from private contributions, fundraising events, and the United Way of Greater New Bedford.
