Five-year old, Kensey Waskiewicz is a star! She plays an Afghan refugee in the now-playing movie “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Alerted to the fact that the organization “Helping Hands” was in search of amputees for an upcoming movie, the Waskiewicz family thought that there daughter would be excellent for the movie. After submitting, different photos of Kensey, they were notified that she was in fact accepted as a film extra and that she would be filming April 10 – 21st, just a few short months away.
Paramount films flew little Kensey out to Vallemis, CA where they began days of makeup and clothing. Kensey was featured at a refugee camp for Afghan youth refugees in the movie.
Based on a true story (and a book by George Crile), Charlie Wilson (Tom Hanks) was a very real congressman from Texas who engineered the arming of the mujahideen in Afghanistan who were waging a long war with the Soviets during the 1980s. Assisting Wilson was a CIA operative (Philip Seymour Hoffman) who operated outside the agency, and while they believed they were doing the right thing, they ended up arming the men who would one day house Osama bin Laden. This movie also stars Julia Roberts and Ned Beatty.
Check out Kensey, our little star, and “Charlie Wilson’s War” playing at a theater near you.
