Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter announced that Timothy Cassidy was indicted by a Bristol County Grand Jury on one charge of first degree murder.
Cassidy, 38, was indicted for the November 21st murder of James Madonna in Taunton.
Mr. Madonna, 44, of Taunton, was found shot to death in his car at the Myles Standish Industrial Park around noon.
Cassidy was arrested on December 7, 2007, in Pooler, Georgia. The arrest was made without incident by State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and a member of the Taunton Police Department. The murder suspect was staying at the Microtel Hotel on Continental Boulevard in Pooler, GA.
Cassidy will be arraigned at Superior Court in New Bedford on a date yet to be determined.
The District Attorney’s Office, Taunton Police, the State Police Detectives Unit assigned to the District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Marshals all assisted in the investigation and subsequent nationwide manhunt.
District Attorney Sutter praised all the law enforcement agencies that contributed to the county’s 100 percent homicide solved rate in 2007 and thanked the Taunton Police Department for working cooperatively with his State Police Unit to locate Mr. Cassidy as far away as Georgia.
“Naturally, I am very pleased with the indictment of Mr. Cassidy. The Taunton Police Department was outstanding in the tenacity it showed to solve this terrible crime. I also would like to thank my State Police Unit, which once again distinguished itself, and the U.S. Marshals for their invaluable assistance,” Sutter said. “As I have said many times, the success we are experiencing in fighting and solving crimes is the direct result of the renewed spirit of cooperation between the District Attorney’s Office and all of the law enforcement agencies operating in Bristol County.”
