“Technologies of the Future” - New Bedford’s Environmental Training & Outreach Program
New Bedford, Massachusetts- The United States Environmental Protection Agency awarded a $250,000 environmental education grant to support the city’s “Technologies of the Future” program. Technologies of the Future is an outreach and awareness building program designed to build a strong community-wide knowledge base and skill bank that enables the citizens of New Bedford to participate meaningfully in decisions that impact their environment and health.
The city’s technical consultant, JFYNetWorks, is working to administer this funding in a way that identifies and addresses the community’s environmental issues and concerns. The City of New Bedford Technologies of the Future will hold three public meetings across the city to learn the key environmental issues facing the various neighborhoods. The meetings are on July 17, 2007 at Hayden- McFadden Elementary School, August 1, 2007 at Sgt. William H. Carney Memorial Academy and August 15 at the Alfred J. Gomes Elementary School. All meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
“It is important that New Bedford residents be an informed citizenry regarding environmental issues. This federally funded program will foster research based knowledge and understanding of local environmental risks as well as the process to mitigate their effect on our community. I encourage all New Bedford citizens to participate in these public meetings and take advantage of this important opportunity,” said Mayor Scott W. Lang
