New Bedford, MA – The New Bedford Area and Fall River Area Chambers of Commerce will bring Beacon Hill to the South Coast when they host Salvatore F. DiMasi, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, as the keynote speaker at their Legislative Luncheon at White’s of Westport, 66 State Rd., Westport (at the Fall River line) on Wednesday, April 9th. The event is sponsored by Comcast.

DiMasi, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, as the keynote speaker at their Legislative Luncheon at White’s of Westport, 66 State Rd., Westport (at the Fall River line) on Wednesday, April 9th. The event is sponsored by Comcast.

DiMasi will be discussing his current legislative agenda. Afterwards, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a Question & Answer session with the Speaker.

“This is a great opportunity to hear about what’s in store on Beacon Hill for the business community in 2008,” said Roy Nascimento, president of the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce.

The region’s entire legislative delegation has been invited to the luncheon, allowing for continued interaction and dialogue between our state legislators and area business and community leaders.

Speaker DiMasi has been a voice for common sense, openness, and inclusion throughout his more than 30 years in public service. He has led efforts to provide better and more affordable health care, stimulate the economy, create energy independence, and maintain the state’s public education excellence.
 
Since taking office in 1979, DiMasi has served as chairman of the Committees on Banks and Banking, the Judiciary, and Criminal Justice. In the early 1980s, he also served as a legislative member of the Massachusetts Commission on International Trade. He served as Assistant Majority Whip and Majority Leader before being elected Speaker in September 2004.

Check-in for the April 9th event starts at 11:45 a.m., with luncheon beginning at 12 noon. The cost of the event is $35 for members and $45 for non-members, with tables of 10 also available.
