Lieutenant Jeffrey P. SilvaThe New Bedford Police Department in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police and the United States Marshal’s Office made a significant arrest of a wanted fugitive today at 8 Jean St - 3rd floor, South apartment in New Bedford.
Arrested was Terrell BAPTISTE (22) on FOUR outstanding arrest warrants including a warrant for Assault with Intent to Murder. Investigators also executed a separatesearch warrant at this address and recovered a substantial amount of cocaine prepared for distribution (just under ½ kilogram), a stolen, loaded firearm from New Bedford, marijuana, and materials consistent with a high level drug distribution operation. BAPTISTE will be held on very high cash bail or no bail at all until his arraignment tomorrow morning in New Bedford 3rd District Court located at 75 N Sixth Street.
At this time, investigators are still very busy processing evidence and BAPTISTE so I cannot obtain photographs or enough detailed information to accurately report the sequence of events, therefore, there will be a Press Conference tomorrow, March 19th, 2008 at 2:00 PM at New Bedford Police Headquarters located at 871 Rockdale Avenue in New Bedford. I am hoping to have the actual evidence available for display and photographing (i.e. gun, ammunition, safes, scales, etc). IF it is unavailable, pictures of it will be beamed on a projector.
No further comments are available at this time nor are they expected until the press conference.
