The Office of Public Affairs, reporting directly to the Chancellor, is responsible for coordinating the strategic communications and advocacy strategies of the campus.
The office oversees media relations and publications, and works closely with the web development, alumni affairs, fundraising, admissions, and academic units to tell the UMass Dartmouth story in a manner that builds public and private support; and attracts talented faculty, students, and staff to campus.
North Dartmouth, MA - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth announces a colloquium entitled "Representation and Citizenship: Conversations with Portuguese-American Elected Officials," organized by the UMD Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture and the Ferreira-Mendes Portuguese-American Archives, on Friday, April 11 at 10 a.m.- 12:30 p.m., in the Claire T. Carney Library (Parking Lot 13).
Participants include Congressman Devin Nunes, of California, who will give the keynote address; Reps. Kevin Aguiar, Antonio Cabral, and Michael Rodrigues, and Senator Marc Pacheco, of Massachusetts; Rep. Joseph Amaral and Senator Daniel DaPonte, of Rhode Island; Prof. Clyde Barrow and David Borges, of the Center for Policy Analysis; Prof. Gloria de Sa, Faculty Director of the Archives; and James McGlinchey, director of the Portuguese-American Citizenship Project. The colloquium, which is part of a year long series on representation and citizenship among the Portuguese in America, is co-sponsored by the Edmund Dinis Portuguese-American Political, Legal and Public Service Collection. The objective is to bring together Portuguese-American elected officials and scholars from across the country in an academic forum to discuss social, economic, political and leadership issues related to the various Portuguese communities throughout the United States.
