New Bedford, Massachusetts – New Bedford Police Narcotics Detectives arrested eight separate individuals charging them with Trafficking in Cocaine, Heroin and/or Marijuana during the month of March as a result of several independent narcotics investigations conducted by various detectives.

(1) On March 7, 2008, Timothy ALMEIDA (27) of 66 Capitol Street was arrested by Detective Dennis Ledo for: Trafficking Marijuana and Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws after executing a search warrant at his home. As a result, over 65 pounds (29 kilograms) of marijuana, records consistent with drug
trafficking, a scale, packaging materials consistent with a large level marijuana distribution operation, a 2002 GMC 3500 work truck and over $2000.00 in US currency was seized. (2008-4122)

(2) On March 12, 2008, Luis Raul MARTINEZ (30) of 126 Nye Street, Apartment 3-West was arrested by Detective Candido Trinidad for: Trafficking Heroin; Trafficking Heroin Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone; Possession of Heroin With Intent to Distribute Within 1000 feet of a School Zone; Possession of
Marijuana With intent to Distribute; and Possession of Marijuana With Intent to Distribute Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone. MARTINEZ was the focus of an alleged multi-drug distribution operation which yielded over 15 grams of heroin, several bags of marijuana and over $1000.00 in US currency after he
was stopped by narcotics detectives while he was a passenger in a vehicle. (2008-4434)

(3) On March 19, 2008 Dane BARROS (21) of 360 Ashley Boulevard, Apartment 3-West was arrested by Detective Jarrod Gracia for: Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 100 Grams; Trafficking Cocaine Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone; Possession of Cocaine With Intent To Distribute; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition; Carrying a Loaded Firearm; and, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. BARROS was the target of an alleged cocaine delivery service that he was operating out of this apartment. During the search detectives located approximately 154 grams of cocaine, most of which was packaged in plastic bags ready for street level distribution; a .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun loaded with six rounds of ammunition; a bulletproof vest; a scale; packaging materials consistent with narcotics distribution and $904.00 U.S. currency. (4) On March 20, 2008, Christopher FRANCIS (20) of 101 Phillips Avenue was arrested by Detective Arthur Hegarty for: Trafficking Cocaine; and, Trafficking Cocaine Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone after Detective Arthur Hegarty applied for and then executed a search warrant at 101 Phillips Ave,

(5) Apartment 1 West. Among the items seized was almost $4,000.00 in cash, plastic baggies consistent with narcotics distribution, a scale, and over 17 grams of cocaine was seized. (2008-4874)

(6) On March 24, 2008, Antonio PACHECO (41) of 967 Kensington Street was arrested by Detective Arthur Hegarty for: Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 28 Grams. Detective Hegarty applied for search warrants for 967 Kensington Street and a BMW 528I used by PACHECO. Detectives then executed the search warrants at the residence and on the vehicle during which time suspected cocaine in excess of 36 grams, packaging materials and a scale were seized. (2008-5126)

(7) On March 26, 2008, Andrew ALVAREZ (24) of 2249 Acushnet Avenue was arrested for: Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 100 Grams; Trafficking Cocaine within 1000 Feet of a School Zone; and, Conspiracy to Violate the Controlled Substance Laws by Detective Dennis Ledo. Narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at 2249 Acushnet Avenue and for a 1997 Ford Expedition used by Andrew ALVAREZ in an alleged cocaine trafficking ring. At the conclusion of the warrants being executed, almost $6,500.00 in cash along with approximately 109 grams of cocaine, packaging materials, plastic baggies with corners cut out, cutting agents used to mix with the cocaine and a scale and $6,465.00 in US currency was seized. (8) On March 29, 2008, Maximo Diaz BONES (37), aka “Philippe”, was arrested by Detective Justin Kagan for: Distribution of Cocaine; Distribution of Cocaine Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone; Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 100 Grams; Trafficking Cocaine Within 1000 Feet of a School Zone; and, Conspiracy to Violate Drug Laws after Detective Kagan executed a search warrant for BONES’ 1999 Chevrolet Blazer. BONES’ vehicle was equipped with a secret, narcotics storage area (aka a “hide”) and that is where approximately 180 grams of cocaine was located. Narcotics detectives also seized a small amount of cocaine that they observed BONES sell to a drug customer, just under $1000 in US currency along with scent masking agents and other evidence of a narcotics distribution operation.(2008-5406)

(9) On March 30, 2008, Jeremy MCCONAGA (28) of 77 Carriage Drive was arrested by Detective Candido Trinidad for: Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and; Trafficking Cocaine in Excess of 100 grams. after Detective Trinidad executed a search warrant he had obtained for MCCONAGA’s 1999 Ford Expedition. MCCONAGA was pulled over in New Bedford while driving with his (11) year old daughter while allegedly on the way back from Dorchester. MCCONAGA was found with over 125 grams of crack cocaine and over $500.00 in US currency on his person. A subsequent search of his Carriage Drive home produced .40 caliber handgun loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition; ammunition
for a .22 caliber gun; and, ammunition for a 9 millimeter gun.
