Anthony Flye - escaped fugitive is back in custody
Anthony Flye, a dangerous fugitve on the run since March 25th, has been captured by Massachusetts State troopers in Westport, MA.

Flye escaped from custody while being treated at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He had been brought there when he injured himself jumping from a second floor stairwell in New Bedford's Superior Court where he was being arraigned on charges of indecent exposure, child rape, and indecent assault and battery of a disabled person.

Flye eluded law enforcement for almost two weeks until his capture today in Westport. The arresting officer (while out actively searching for Flye), noticed a person fitting Flye's description walking along the side of the highway with his head down and covered with a hood. Flye unaware of the officer in the unmarked police car watching him, walked directly towards the officer.

The arresting officer accompanied by a canine officer who had arrived on scene and had positioned himself directly behind Flye stopped Flye and questioned him. Flye immediately gave up his name and submitted to arrest.

Flye had $800 on him at the time of his capture.

New Bedford District Court Judge Bernadette Sabra ordered that Flye be held on $1,000,000 dollars bail. Mr. Flye is already being held without bail on his Superior Court cases, so even if he is able to post the $1 million, he will still not be released.

As he was being led from the courtroom after his arraignment, no fewer than three officers had their hands on him at all times.

The whereabouts of Flye in the two weeks since his escape to the time of his capture, and how he came to have $800 on his person are still unknown.
