Maureen Waltz adopted her daughter Sarah from Russia in 2003 when Sarah was just 16 months old. Weighing in at 13 pounds, Maureen, had a feeling that her daughter would face developmental issues from the start. An MRI at two years of age confirmed this hunch diagnosing Sarah with Cerebral Palsy.
A friend of the Center ran into Maureen one day and suggested that she have her daughter evaluated at the Center for free. Maureen did just that and Sarah was determined to be eligible for Early Intervention Services. Two different therapists shared the responsibility of coming out to the Waltz’ home providing her with therapy. The Early Intervention Program services children at risk of or exhibiting delays from birth through the age of three.
At the age of three, Sarah transitioned out of the Early Intervention Program into the Center’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Program. For the past three years, the Center has provided Sarah with Physical Therapy both land and aquatics based and she attends the Pedi Rehab Clinic with Dr. Webster. She also receives Physical and Occupational Therapy from her school district.
Since coming to the Center, Sarah has progressed from crawling on her hands and knees to walking upright on her own without assistance. A miracle say some, including her mom.
Maureen states that “The Center has helped out tremendously, I would not know what do without them. The Center has educated our family on her form of disability and what could be done for her. The staff - Lisa, Jess and Mary, are key to her great success. Without them, she would have never walked!”
