The New Bedford Republican Party celebrated its first annual Summer Kick-Off Celebration at the Catwalk Bar & Grille in New Bedford’s historic downtown waterfront on June 24, 2008.  An estimated 75-80 SouthCoast GOP, elected officials, candidates, young business professionals, friends and family converged upon the Whaling City to laud the renewed and ongoing successes of the New Bedford Republican Party as it enters the 2008 election-year cycle.

With a streamlined set of deliverable goals and a discerning focus on the return of grassroots fundamentals to GOP activism on the SouthCoast, the New Bedford Republican Party has been rejuvenated by the influx of several 20-somethings from Generation Y.  Vice-chairman Ryan Dixon (26), Secretary Jennifer Ventura (24) and Alex Paleologos (23) have helped restore the New Bedford GOP to its true form as a viable grassroots political action committee that provides a decisive resource for Republican candidates and causes.

New Bedford GOP Chairman Nathan Pierce (25) commented that “the strength of our Party lies within the commitment of its membership in returning the concept of duality of thought to New Bedford.  This sort of celebration of our common goals and ideas is validation that we are strong as an eclectic, yet united collection of individuals committed to sharing a truly progressive, yet positive message for New Bedford.”
The New Bedford Republican Party was pleased to host special guest Earl Henry Sholley, a Republican candidate running in 2008 for the United States House of Representatives opposing Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) for the 4th Congressional District of Massachusetts.

The highlight of the Summer Kick-Off Celebration was the annual conferral of the 2008 Fiat Lux Award.  This honor is bestowed upon an active member of the New Bedford Republican Party who demonstrates courage of conviction, strength and leadership, initiative, and an individual who exemplifies those principles that govern the charter of the Party.  The recipient of the 2008 Fiat Lux Award was Executive Director Alex Paleologos.
