September 11th AHA! Night presents an evening of cultural walking tours and talks. Explore and re-discover New Bedford through a fascinating collection of historical tours and talks spanning the heyday of the Whaling era with its Victorian mansions, the days of the Underground railway to the contemporary seaport that characterizes our cultural city. Additional September AHA! programs includes art exhibits, live music shopping and dining.

AHA! New Bedford

AHA! welcomes new partners The Bedford Merchant (28 William Street) and the Colo Colo Gallery (25 Centre Street).

The City of New Bedford trolley bus will shuttle visitors between the venues from 5-9pm.

Walking Tours and Talks
The Old Bedford Village Community Development Corporation presents a walking tour of Old Bedford Village lead by Buddy Andrade. Tour starts at the corner of South Sixth Street and Spring Street at 5 p.m.
Working Water Front Festival Learn about the commercial fishing industry on a guided dock walk presented by festival staff. Tours depart from the Wharfinger Building (State Pier) at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

WHALE ( Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE) presents a Preservation Walking Tour of New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park and State Pier. The tour presents an opportunity to learn how WHALE’s preservation efforts have transformed New Bedford. Tour leaves from the Preservation Exhibit at the Corson Maritime Heritage Center (33 William Street) at 6 p.m.
 
The New Bedford Historical Society presents a walking tour of Underground Railroad sites in downtown New Bedford. The tour will be lead by Lee Blake and leaves from the Visitor Center (33 William Street) at 6 p.m.

Rotch-Jones-Duff House (396 County St.) and the New Bedford Preservation Society present a walking tour of the West of County Street Historic District  lead by Bruce Barnes. The tour steps off from the front steps of the Rotch-Jones-Duff House at 6 p.m.  Museum is open from 5 – 6 p.m.

New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park Living History Program; a re-enactment of a conversation of two women from the 1850’s New Bedford whaling community at the Seamen's Bethel 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

The New Bedford Whaling Museum Research Library (791 Purchase St) Research Library Curator’s tour “Purchase & Union: A Corner Through Time” with Michael Dyer and Michael Lapides. Talk begins at 6:30 p.m.
   
First Unitarian Church in New Bedford (corner of County and Union Streets) Tours of historic building; garden and labyrinth open from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Civil War in 3-D - Join John Wojtowicz on a visual tour of Civil War images. Lecture will include original 3-D pictures of the Civil War. At the Corson Maritime Learning Center at 8 p.m.

The New Bedford Ocean Explorium (174 Union Street) teams up with the Lloyd Center for the Environment for an evening that will inspire thoughtful stewardship of our whole earth, blue and green. On exhibit; prospective designs for the Fishermen's Tribute Fund monument to be constructed at Fort Taber.  Open from 5-8 p.m.
Azorean Maritime Heritage Society at Casa Dos Botes (North Water Street behind the Whaling Museum) presents a display of 39 ft whaleboats and history of the whaling in the Azores.
 
Live Music

Whaling City Sounds on Centre Street ends the season with pianist/composer Andy McWain and his trio playing some of his recent compositions. Trio includes Berklee College professor Bruce Gertz on bass and Chris Poudrier on drums. Two sets at 5:30pm and 7:15pm. Rain location Pilgrim Church Home (634 Purchase Street).

The Cafe Arpeggio (800 Purchase Street) featured performer is will be singer/songwriter Gary Farias from 6-7 p.m. Open mic follows from 7-10 p.m. hosted by Art Tebbetts.

Joe Piper Celtic and World Musical Goods (106 William Street) presents an open music session pre-Hibernia warm up!

The University Art Gallery (715 Purchase Street) presents the exhibit Henrik Drescher: Ornamental Breakdown. The artist will give the talk : Multitasking With the Muses in the lecture Hall at 8:30 p.m.  

Gallery X (169 William Street) The Veterans transitions House presents a “Salute to the Veterans”.  The Exhibit will display over 100 original paintings by  VTH residents and other works of art with a Veteran’s theme.
AHA! welcomes new partner Colo Colo Gallery (25 Centre Street) Owner/Artist Luis Villanueva. This commercial gallery features contemporary art including painting, sculptures and works on paper.
AHA! welcomes new partner The Bedford Merchant (28 William Street) This family owned gift shop specializes in usual merchandise and gift products.  

New Bedford Art Museum (608 Pleasant Street) Last change to view the exhibits: Jane Tuckerman Haunted; Kathryn Lee Smith: Crossing the Fine White Line and the Vault Series: Michelle Grabner — The Pleasures of Merely Circulating. In the downstairs gallery - Location Not Specific (or, It's Neither Here Nor There) an installation by artists Caroline Doherty and Sean Naftel.  

ArtWorks! (384 Acushnet Avenue) New exhibit in the Community Gallery Photographs by Mark Starr opening reception 6-8 pm. Exhibits continue: Art Exposed: from Concept to Completion. In the Sarah Lousie Cousins Gallery, In Process: Teen Artist Internship Program TAIP.
