Fairhaven, MA—Motorcycles of all makes and models will help rev up the fight against breast cancer on Sunday, October 5 at Chest Fest 2008, a fundraising event spearheaded by the Ice Chest Bar & Grille in Fairhaven and designed to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Starting and finishing at the Ice Chest Bar & Grille in Fairhaven, this fundraiser is aimed to draw hundreds of motorcyclists across the South Coast to help raise breast cancer awareness, honor breast cancer survivors, and support the American Cancer Society's life-saving program, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
"Breast cancer impacts the lives of not only the patient but their loved ones; so it is everyone's fight,” said American Cancer Society State VP of Development, Paula Montgomery. “We are so grateful to the Ice Chest and the organizers of Chest Fest 2008 for their commitment to raising funds to support the Society's breast cancer programs and services."
This is the first event of this kind hosted by the Ice Chest Bar & Grille, which just celebrated its first successful year in operation.
“We are extremely excited to be hosting the first annual Chest Fest which will include a Bike Run,” said Scott Costa. “The event has been planned, with many facets, to include everyone over the age of 21. You don’t have to go on the Bike Run to participate. Three bands and a few surprises will be only a portion of the venue, all to benefit the Strides Campaign for the American Cancer Society.”
Registration begins at 10:30 am with the ride beginning at noon. Registration includes a nice fall ride through neighboring towns with one-stop and then back to “The Chest” for the party under the tent. Enjoy a beef roast, scallops and chouriço skewer dinner, vendors, promos, raffles and performances by Daddy Don’t Jump, The Relics and Shipyard Wreck!
Sponsors include ABC Disposal, Adams & Adams, Inc., Baarsvik Orthodontics, Bufftree Building Company, Inc., Florence Electric, and Tremblay’s Bus Co.
Tickets are $20.00 per person. For more information about Chest Fest 2008, contact Lyn Metivier at The Ice Chest Bar and Grille at 508-992-2337. Participants can also purchase tickets in advance at the Ice Chest, 136 Huttleston Avenue, Fairhaven, MA 02719.

About Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is the American Cancer Society's premier event to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. But it’s more than just the name of a walk – it describes the amazing progress we’re making together to defeat this disease. Since 1993, 4 million walkers have raised more than $280 million through Making Strides. In 2007 alone, nearly 500,000 walkers across the country collected more than $50 million to help fight breast cancer.
Making Strides is your opportunity to honor breast cancer survivors, educate women about breast cancer prevention and early detection, and raise funds and awareness to help achieve a day when no one will have to hear the words “You have breast cancer.” The majority of Making Strides events take place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. They are typically five kilometers (3.1 miles) or five miles in length.
The American Cancer Society has a presence in more than 3,400 communities across the country and is the only organization available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help people touched by cancer. Breast cancer is the number one reason people call the Society. When you support Making Strides, you are helping the Society seek better ways to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer, as well as provide help and hope to people facing the disease.
