NEW BEDFORD, MA --- Tom Jones’s and Harvey Schmidt’s Outer Critic’s Circle Award winning musical Philemon, a stunning theatre piece and the first major production of Your Theatre, Inc.’s 62nd season, opens on September 17 for a nine performance run.  Directed by Your Theatre’s Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. of New Bedford with musical direction by Bonnie – Jeanne Brault of Fairhaven, the play runs Wednesdays through Saturdays September 17-20 and 24-27, 2008, with a matinee Sunday, September 21. Curtain time is 8:00 p.m. for all shows except the 3:00 p.m. Sunday matinee.

The cast of Philemon features Eddie Camara of Acushnet, Robert Duquette of Somerset, Aaron C. Viera of New Bedford, Eileen Caron of Marion, Kristina Dahlene of Middleboro, Jillian Rapoza of Fairhaven, and Tyler Rowe of Dartmouth.
Philemon has scenic design by Trevor Elliott of New Bedford, costumes by Cheryl Day of Fairhaven and Lois Craveiro of New Bedford, lights by Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. of New Bedford, with Lawrence R. Houbre, III, also of New Bedford as production Stage Manager.

Philemon, set in the ancient Roman city of Antioch, with a blend of catchy tunes haunting melodies humor and theatrical flair, by the authors of The Fantastics, I Do! I Do! and 110 In The Shade, tells the story of a clown who finds himself face to face with a rigid commander who feels the clown should be sent to his death. But because the commander likes him, his life is spared on one condition: that he impersonate a missing Christian leader, Philemon, to enable the Romans to catch and execute more Christians. With no choice, the clown does the commander's bidding, but in doing so begins to feel for the persecuted. The clown “becomes" Philemon, overflowing with love and the hope for a more humane world, thus earning his redemption “…a very special show and a prodigious example of musical theatre ...New York Post
