More than eighty employees (prosecutors and other various staff) of the Bristol County District Attorney's office came to the Wamsutta Club today to learn about available volunteer opportunities. Each member of Sam Sutter's staff made a commitment to volunteer at least 26 after-work hours each year to local area organizations that so desperately need the help.

Today, more than 25 county organizations in need of volunteer help hosted display tables, answered questions and provided information to Bristol County DA staff as they went from table to table learning about the organizations and their missions - trying to decide where their contribution might make the biggest impact.

Organizations represented included: United Way, SMILES Mentoring, Boy & Girls Club of New Bedford, New Bedford Youth Court, Citizens School, Our Sister School and more.

It's an all too familiar call - charities are desperate for people to participate and share some of their time helping someone else less fortunate.  The need never seems to diminish but thanks to a very focused effort by District Attorney Sam Sutter and a spirit of volunteerism by his prosecutors and staff, local organizations will have at least 80 more volunteers this coming year. Since being elected to office in 2006 Sutter has consistently promoted community volunteerism among his staff.

Most recently, D.A. Sutter and staff provided free tennis clinics throughout Bristol County to promote good health for children. Each summer, Sam undertakes the mission of getting kids off the sofa and outside to a healthy active lifestyle. Hundreds of children have participated. These tennis clinics are staffed by volunteers from the D.A.'s office and led by Sam Sutter himself.
