Whaling Museum Party Goes Over the Top
On Saturday, August 18 from 7-11 p.m., the New Bedford Whaling Museum will hold its second annual summer party, Over the Top – Under the Stars. Like last year’s Over the Top, this event will be held in the most unique space on the South Coast – the Museum’s plaza and Jacobs Family Gallery, under the hanging bones of the blue whale.
Over the Top is the Whaling Museum’s signature event, and all would agree that the signature aspect of the event is the food. Rather than having a formal dinner setting, we wanted to develop a relaxed atmosphere where guests can feel comfortable sampling and socializing among foods and beverages from the best caterers in the region.
This year, we’re proud to feature a sumptuous menu of various “food stations,” placed inside and out, as well as several bar locations. This includes Asian noodles from Blackstone Caterers, salads from the Westporter, a raw bar from Cuttyhunk Shellfish Farms, seafood martinis from Fine Catering by Russell Morin, Italian meats and cheeses from Catering by Mancieri’s, chowder from Harriet’s Catering, and mojito beef brochettes from Crazy Chefs. You’re encouraged to try as much as you can throughout the evening, so pace yourself.
Along with the food are the specialty drinks, courtesy of Cardoza’s Wine & Spirits. Returning for an encore is last year’s most popular libation, the Caipirinha, which is a Brazilian concoction made with sugar, lime, and cachaça, a product of fermented sugarcane. There will also be a martini bar, exotic Caribbean rum drinks, and Cardoza’s own signature top-shelf open bar in two locations.
And of course, we haven’t forgotten dessert. Fine Catering by Russell Morin will be serving specially created tortes and pastries by Pastry Chef Robert Croteau. There will also be treats from Dorothy Cox’s Chocolates and coffee from Café Arpeggio.
But there is more to Over the Top – Under the Stars than just food and drink. There will be music and entertainment to keep the guests dancing all night, as well as the opportunity to bid on some fabulous items in our silent auction. These auction items include wine tastings, dinners, original artwork, day trips, and more. Check out the complete listing here. And in keeping with the celestial theme, you’re encouraged to dress like a star – or as one – the sky’s the limit!
Individual tickets to the event are $100, but you can also become a patron for $500, which includes two tickets and recognition at the event. Tickets will be available at the door, or you can call 508 997-0046 ext. 144 to make a reservation.
Over the Top is the Whaling Museum’s yearly fundraiser, with all proceeds helping to underwrite the Museum’s free programming that serves 30,000 adults and children each year. So join us under the stars on August 18 – you won’t want to miss it.
Over the Top – Under the Stars is sponsored by Richard White Sons, Acushnet Company, Brandon Woods, Cardoza’s Wine & Spirits, Chase Canopy, and Lightworks Productions.
