In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, the Women’s Center has a number of events planned for Domestic Violence Awareness Month:

October 9th–19th - Survivor’s Art Exhibit - Gallery X, 169 William St., New Bedford
A special Opening Reception will be held on October 9th from 6 - 8 PM with light refreshments. The exhibit is created by survivors of domestic violence in art workshops at The Women’s Center. Art is one of the most valuable tools battered women use to regain their self-esteem and find inner peace. The exhibit portrays the hope, survival and strength of domestic violence survivors. These powerful images serve as “a window between worlds” to educate the public and help survivors express themselves through art as part of the healing process. The exhibit will be open during regular gallery hours (Wednesdays through Sundays) through October 19th.

October 28th at 6:00pm - Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil
The public is invited to gather on the steps of New Bedford City Hall at 6:00pm to march in silence to the Unitarian Church (corner of 8th and Union St), where a short inspirational program to remember victims of domestic violence will be held. The program will include musical tributes, survival stories, the “Clothesline Project and the introduction of the “Silent Witnesses” representing each of the Massachusetts victims who lost their lives to domestic violence during the past year.
