First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union Sells Union Street Property; Will Remain At Location

Fairhaven, MA – August 02, 2007 --- First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union has sold the building housing its downtown branch at 271 Union Street, New Bedford, MA, to the Tomlinson & O’ Neil Insurance Agency, according to an announcement today by Charles R. Simpson, Jr, First Citizens’ President and CEO.

FCFCU has taken back a long term lease from Tomlinson & O’Neil and will continue uninterrupted, long term operations at the site.  The second floor of the building will become the new headquarters of Tomlinson & O’Neil Insurance following an extensive renovation.

“We are committed to this site and expect to remain at this address for the long term,” Simpson said.  “However, since our overriding mission is to care for the financial health of our members, real estate ownership tends not to be one of our priorities. With the extensive renovations needed on the upper floor, a sale ended up making more sense for both parties,” he added. 

According to Christopher O’Neil, Tomlinson & O’Neil Vice President, when the renovation is complete, the agency will relocate from its current space at 93 Spring Street, and make Union Street its new headquarters.  A complete renovation of the office and public space will allow the agency to more than double its current size of about 2,100 sq. ft. to more than 5,000 sq. feet.

“This will provide much needed office space for our growing agency and allow us to develop a better environment for our current and future clients, many of whom are also members of First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union,” O’Neil said.
