In celebration of National Preservation Month, the New Bedford Preservation Coalition is sponsoring a free, hands-on workshop on restoring wooden windows at the Corson Maritime Learning Center (adjacent to the Visitor Center) on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 9AM-12Noon. The workshop will be presented by Jade Mortimer of the New England Window Restoration Alliance (NWRA). The NWRA website (http://www.windowrestorationne.org) offers a tip sheet that features the top ten reasons to restore your wooden windows.
NEW BEDFORD—The Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE (WHALE) yesterday officially purchased the John Howland Jr. House located at 38 South Sixth Street in New Bedford saving the property from demolition. The nonprofit historic preservation organization closed on the property Thursday afternoon, purchasing it from F & S Enterprises Inc. of Rhode Island.
New Bedford - Even though the weather is turning colder and winter is fast approaching, now is the perfect time to think about painting your house next spring. If you own a historic home, choosing paint colors can be a daunting task. There are a number of things to consider – the architectural style of your house, what colors were typically used on that style, and how many colors should you use. If you need help choosing colors that would be appropriate for your house, there is a free workshop coming up that will help get you started.
NEW BEDFORD — Four homes in the historic Washington Square neighborhood, just south of downtown New Bedford, are getting a facelift thanks to the efforts of the local preservation group, WHALE, the Waterfront Historic Area LeaguE.


Have a whale of a time at the 19th annual Wine Festival and Auction at Custom House Square in New Bedford on Sept. 18 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Proceeds will benefit WHALE’s preservation, neighborhood restoration, and advocacy activities.
