Break out of the winter blahs. Shake off cabin fever. Select or create a piece of artwork to submit to the Westport Art Group’s Annual Spring Juried Show. The theme: Nature’s Bounty.
As you put away the Thanksgiving turkey, mark the date: Saturday, December 1, 2012. Come to the WAG studio from 10 am – 4 pm at 1740 Main Road, Westport Point. Shop for special gifts of artwork and unique crafts by WAG members and local craftspeople. A special Silent Auction will feature a painting by Dora Atwater Milliken of Westport and a painting by Jordan Wolfson, a contemporary artist from Colorado who has taught two workshops at WAG.
The three-day Summer Show will kick off with an opening reception on Thursday, July 5, 4-6 pm. This show features works by local artists and crafts persons, a large bin of unframed pieces and a raffle wall of “Small Jewels”. WAG members create and donate small 5” x 7” paintings, which are raffled off at the end of the show. They are matted and ready to frame. Buy a chance to win a painting by your favorite artist!
The Working Waterfront Festival is pleased to announce the winner of our 2012 Design Contest - Jon Campbell of Narragansett, Rhode Island. Jon is well known to Festival audiences as a singer/songwriter, poet and all around wordsmith. “The Committee was impressed with Jon’s creative approach to incorporating the 2012 theme Fishtales: Fact Fiction and Narrative Tradition” (Laura Orleans, Festival Director). Jon’s design will appear on the Festival t-shirt, program guide, and poster.
The Westport Art Group is proud to present a watercolor demonstration by Tom Sutherland, painting a watercolor of a Venice scene set to the music of the great Italian composer, Giacomo Puccini. The demonstration will be held at the WAG Center, 1740 Main Road, Westport Point, MA 02791. It is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $5.00.

Gorgeous fine art and handcrafted items made by local artists and artisans will be available at the Westport Art Group’s Annual Summer Community Show, July 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th, 2011. This art and fine craft show and sale is held at the WAG Center, 1720 Main Road, Westport, MA and runs 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day, with an opening reception on Thursday evening, July 7th from 5 to 7 pm.

Local artists, Jennifer Gelinas of Westport and Paula Becker of Tiverton have been teaching very well received classes at The Westport Art Group. Both instructors have teaching experience at the college and primary education levels in the arts and have had successful careers as textile designers for the woven and printed fabric and paper manufacturing industries.
The Westport Art Group is proud to present a paper-making demonstration by Wayne Fuerst, who trained in handmade paper techniques at Rugg Road Paper.

December Holiday Fair

This year’s Annual Holiday Fair will be held Saturday, December 4th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the WAG Center, 1740 Main Road, Westport. We are looking forward to a fun and successful event, and encourage you to join us!

We will be featuring fabulous handcrafted items made by local artisans, including pottery, woodcrafts, stained glass, and handcrafted jewelry, and more. We will feature original artwork by our members in a sale we are calling “Artwork at a Perfect Price!”, with smaller works priced at $150 or less. Lest our shoppers get hungry, we will be offering tasty temptations with our annual Baked Goods Sale.
The following 3 workshops will be taught by textile artist and designer, Paula Becker. Each individual 6 hour workshop is $60 or sign up for all 3 workshops for $150 and save $30! WAG presents 54rd Annual Summer Show & Sale

The eagerly anticipated WAG Summer Show is FREE and open to the public. The Show features artworks by WAG and other local artists, plus handcrafts by local artisans. We are hoping for a fabulous June day, perfect for delightful vistas and gardens in Westport Harbor. There will be 20 different artists painting plein air, and participating artists may include Dora Atwater Milliken, Meredith Cornell, Heide Hallemeier, Kris Donovan, Dennis Broadbent, Sarah Desjardins and many other talented WAG artists.
The Westport Art Group , 1740 Main Road, Westport Point, is pleased to offer Summer Camp for Kids. There will be two sessions with the theme of “Reduce-Reuse-Remarkable”, A Summer Camp for Young Artists. The first session is Monday–Friday, August 9–13 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the second separate session is Monday–Friday, August 16–20 at the same time. The camp is for students ages 7–12.
The Westport Art Group is proud to present a pastel painting demonstration by Jean Hirons, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the Maryland Pastel Society, and the Pastel Painters’ Society of Cape Cod.

South Coast Artists to Offer Workshop

South Coast Artists, a non-profit (pending) organization serving the coastal communities of Dartmouth and Westport, MA and Little Compton and Tiverton, RI, is offering its second Spring Workshop called "IT'S A BLAST; EMAIL MARKETING 101" on Saturday, May 1, 2010 from 10am to 2pm at the Southworth Library, 732 Dartmouth Street, Dartmouth, MA. This workshop will teach artists the essential practices and value of an Email Marketing Plan. At the end of the workshop, the artist will understand the key elements of why and how to create and launch a basic email campaign.

This informative workshop will be taught by Bob Salvas, Marketing Consultant of Success-Mail Inc.. Bob is a recognized expert in the field of direct mail marketing. He teaches the basics and value of creating a strategic email marketing plan in this three and a half hour workshop. The fee for members is $25, non-members, $50.

Our Juror: Richard Harrington - Richard Harrington, a Rhode Island native, is an award winning artist and a juried member of several local art organizations. A skilled teacher, he offers instruction and workshops in watercolor, acrylic and monotype painting.

His paintings cover a wide range of subjects: landscapes, flowers, architecture, and still lives. He paints what he sees, at times improvising on the subject matter or inventing elements to enhance the image. Using strong composition and saturated color, he paints in a realistic, representational manner to capture the unique and quiet beauty around us.

Westport Art Group and the Sakonnet Arts Network proudly presents: A Figure Workshop

Taught by Meredith Wildes Cornell - Join Meredith Cornell for three Tusedays in April to study the figure through gesture drawing and more developed painting, working from a live model. Some emphasis on the portrait will be included.

Classes will be held on Tuesday mornings April 13, 20, & 27 from 9:30 am–12:30 pm at the WAG building, 1740 Main Road in Westport. Gesture materials will be provided. Bring your own painting materials.

The fee is $75.00 for members of WAG and SAN, and $90 for non-members. It includes the model fee. Please register by April 2 to ensure a space.

Local artist and beloved teacher, Meredith Cornell, will provide instruction in working from the figure. She still lives in Little Compton RI, and is a graduate of the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, MA, and a student then and since of several masters from Sigmund Abeles and Reopel and later to Norma Anderson and Thomas Sgouros. Ms. Cornell taught for many years at the Westport Art Group in Westport MA.

The Westport Art Group is conducting a feasibility study to determine whether the public would support and make use of a separate art studio for children. An anonymous WAG member has made a donation in gratitude to the WAG board and membership for its renewed emphasis in support of children and the arts. This donation could be used as seed money to build a separate studio dedicated to children’s work. The Westport Art Group’s one studio space has become very busy with many new programs in the last five years, such as, adult art classes, craft classes, exhibits by local artists, open studio weekend, demonstrations by well know artists, young artists summer camp and the annual holiday fair.
The Westport Art Group is proud to present a watercolor “wet into wet” painting demonstration featuring the figure by David Barnes, a well-known artist and teacher who has exhibited his award-winning paintings nationally.

Looking for a fun and creative outlet during the cold winter month of March for your young artists? Sign them up for an opportunity to draw, paint, collage and exercise those creative minds and hands!

Classes will be held on Saturday mornings March 6, 13, 20 & 27 from 9:00am–12:00pm at the WAG building, 1740 Main Road in Westport.

The cost is $80.00 per child and all materials for the workshop will be provided. The workshop is open to children ages 10–13, with space available for 10 students. Please register by February 15 to ensure a space.

Many of the paintings from WAG’s juried show “Bon Appétit”, held in May 2009, will be on exhibit from June 10th to June 23, 2009 in the second-floor gallery of the Westport Rivers Winery. The Winery is located at 417 Hixbridge Road, Westport MA 02790. Winery/gallery hours are 11 am – 5 pm Tuesday through Saturday and 1 – 5 pm Sunday and Monday.
