Snow Emergency - Parking Ban
Sunday - 02/17/2013 - The city of New Bedford announced a city wide snow emergency parking ban that was to take effect as of midnight last night.

The parking ban will be in effect for 48-hours unless lifted or further extended by officials.

The City continues to address the after-effects of the storm.  Public safety agencies continue to respond to storm-related incidents.  The Police Department and Emergency Medical Services have now responded to close to 1,300 requests for assistance since this past Friday afternoon.  The New Bedford Fire Department has now responded to more than 250 calls for downed lines, fires, and other emergencies.

The City’s Emergency Response

A State of Emergency in the City of New Bedford remains in effect.  The after-effects of the winter storm continue to threaten the health and safety of City residents.  The New Bedford Fire and Police Departments continue to receive calls for assistance with a variety of storm-related emergencies.  Police and Fire units have also begun recovery efforts, including traffic management and hydrant clearing.  The Police Department continues to enforce the city-wide parking ban which will remain in effect until noon on Tuesday, February 12.  Residents are asked to comply with the ban so that plowing can be completed as soon as possible.
New Bedford, Massachusetts- New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell took additional steps to address the deteriorating weather conditions and anticipated impact of the blizzard. As of 12:00 Noon today, February 8, 2013, Mayor Mitchell declared a state of emergency in the City of New Bedford because of the threat to New Bedford residents posed by the blizzard. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick issued a similar statewide declaration of emergency and has banned cars from roadways beginning at 4:00 p.m. today.
**New Bedford Parking Ban Lifted** Sunday 12/30/12

The City of New Bedford has announced a snow emergency parking ban to take effect in residential areas as of 7:00 p.m. and as of 11:00 p.m. in the business districts on Saturday December 29, 2012. The parking ban will remain in effect for 48-hours thereafter, unless lifted or further extended by City officials. The parking ban is designed to allow City workers to efficiently remove snow from New Bedford roadways to allow public safety vehicles and residents to travel safely.

New Bedford, Massachusetts- Mayor Scott W. Lang has announced that the Double Sided parking ban in the Downtown and Acushnet Avenue Business Districts has been lifted as of 8:00am today, Wednesday, February 2, 2011.

The citywide parking ban is still in effect through tomorrow, February 3, 2011 at 12:00pm (noon).

UMASS DARTMOUTH CLOSED WEDNESDAY

UMass Dartmouth will be closed as of midnight tonight. This includes the main campus and all satellite sites, including PCE and the law school. The campus will re-open Thursday morning.

New Bedford, Massachusetts- In an effort to improve parking ban adherence, the City of New Bedford has increased emergency snow parking ban fines to $50.00 per ticket effective January 27, 2010.

When an emergency snow Parking Ban is in effect the public is advised that parking is allowed on the north side of all streets that run east and west and on the east side of all streets running north and south. Parking is permitted on the side of the street that is opposite the fire hydrant, no vehicles should be parked on the same side of the street as a fire hydrant. On the streets that are regularly posted for parking on one side of the street only, residents are to obey those signs as usual. In addition, a double side parking ban takes effect in both the Acushnet Avenue Business District and the Downtown Business District during Emergency Snow Parking Bans.

Snow Emergency Parking Ban Extended an Additional 24 Hours (Update Dec. 21, 2009)

New Bedford, Massachusetts - A citywide snow emergency parking ban that went into effect in New Bedford as of 5pm on Saturday, December 19, 2009 has been extended until 5pm tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 22, 2009.

The public is advised that while the snow emergency parking ban is in effect, parking is allowed on the north side of all streets that run east and west and on the east side of all streets running north and south.   

Parking is permitted on the side of the street that is opposite the fire hydrant, no vehicles should be parked on the same side of the street as a fire hydrant.   

Please note that on the streets that are regularly posted for parking on one side of the street only, residents are to obey those signs as usual.

As conditions warrant, violations of this parking regulation will be subject to towing, at full cost to the owner of the vehicle towed.

The following areas have been designated as “parking areas” for those residents in need of off-street parking while the emergency snow parking ban is in effect:

    * Hazelwood Park–Brock Avenue
    * Roosevelt Middle School–Brock Avenue and Dennis Street
    * Cove Street Parking Lot–Cove Street and Morton Court

    * Buttonwood Park Parking Area – Hawthorn Street Entrance and Lake Street Entrance
    * Coggeshall Street Parking Lot – Coggeshall Street and Acushnet Avenue
    * Sawyer Street Parking Lot – Between Sawyer Street and Beetle Street
    * Bullard Street at Acushnet Avenue
    * Ottiwell School – 26 Madeira Avenue
    * Brooklawn Park Parking Area – Brooklawn Street (South Side)
    * Normandin Middle School – Tarkiln Hill Road
    * Jireh Swift School – Tarklin Hill Road
    * Campbell School – Phillips Road
New Bedford, Massachusetts- A citywide snow emergency parking ban will be in effect in New Bedford as of 5 o’clock PM tomorrow night, Saturday, December 19, 2009. This parking ban will remain in effect for 48-hours thereafter, unless further extended by city officials.
Mayor Scott W. Lang announced today that this year’s enrollment period for the CLEAR PATH Program is November 1- November 30, 2009.

The Clear Path Program, operating since 2003, provides snow clean-up assistance to physically disabled New Bedford homeowners. The program, funded by the City’s Commission for Citizens with Disabilities, is limited to the first 50 disabled homeowners who apply and submit medical documentation during this time period.
