The Bay Sox will be returning to New Bedford this summer, and are in need of host families to house players who have come from all over the country to chase their dreams of becoming major leaguers.

The New Bedford Bay Sox played their first season of baseball at Paul Walsh Field last summer. The team is a part of the New England Collegiate Baseball League and will be playing all of their homes game there again this year beginning on June 6 as they take on the Newport Gulls.
New Bedford, Massachusetts- At a press conference this morning, Mayor Scott W. Lang announced that New Bedford will host a major commercial marine industry trade event this June. Commercial Marine Expo (CME), a 42-year-old biennial event, is relocating from Providence to the State Pier in New Bedford. The two-day event will be held June 9-10. City officials began negotiating with the show organizer in 2007, led by New Bedford Harbor Commission Executive Director Kristin Decas and New Bedford Economic Development Commission’s Matthew Morrissey.
New Bedford, Massachusetts- As construction continues to expand the Fort Taber~Fort Rodman Military Museum, the Fort Taber~Fort Rodman Historical Association is proud to announce record attendance in 2009, with over 6,000 visitors logged. Since opening in 2004 with a few simple displays, the museum has flourished into a destination attraction where visitors can learn about the history of Fort Taber and Fort Rodman and honor the sacrifices and accomplishments of local veterans. In total, the museum has attracted over 25,000 visitors.


New Bedford, Massachusetts- This year the City of New Bedford will again sponsor several family oriented events to mark the start of the 2009 holiday season. All events are open to the public and are free of charge.
New Bedford, Massachusetts – The City hosted two film crews over the weekend: Original Productions filmed at the Waterfront Grille on Friday night and Silent Dinner Productions filmed several scenes at the Law Offices of Lipman & Lipman on Sunday.

New Bedford- Welcome aboard as New Bedford, America’s largest commercial fishing port hosts the 6th Working Waterfront Festival, a celebration of commercial fishing culture.

The Working Waterfront Festival is a unique opportunity for the public to get a firsthand look at the culture of fishing and for the commercial fishing community to tell its own story. The event presents all that goes into bringing seafood from the ocean to the table in a way that is hands-on, educational and fun. Visitors are encouraged to listen and watch, but also to taste, touch and converse.


Welcome aboard as New Bedford, America's largest commercial fishing port, hosts the 6th Working Waterfront Festival, a celebration of commercial fishing culture.
Sightseeing flights are being offered EARLY THIS YEAR by the New Bedford Pilots Association on Saturday OCTOBER 3RD (Rain date Sunday October 4th) at the New Bedford Municipal Airport. The donation is $30 per adult and $15 per child age twelve and younger. Proceeds from the event will be used to provide toys and other gifts for children in the New Bedford PACE Care system and another local, family oriented charitable program to be announced this holiday season.

New Bedford Summer Fireworks Display Rescheduled

New Bedford, Massachusetts- Due to the inclement weather forecast for the Greater New Bedford area the City of New Bedford Summer 2009 Fireworks Display has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 25th at 9:30PM.

As previously planned, the fireworks will be launched from the hurricane barrier located at the base of Gifford Street.
July 24 through August 2, 2009 at 1740 Main Road, Westport Point, MA 02791 - Open Daily from 11 am to 5 pm.

The eagerly anticipated WAG Summer Show is FREE and open to the public. The Show features artworks by WAG and other local artists, plus handcrafts by local artisans. Crafts include hand-crafted jewelry, woodcrafts, pottery, hand-blown glass jewelry and vases, crocheted items, scarves, art prints and more! All arts & crafts are for sale.
Dartmouth, MA – The public is invited to join Lloyd Center Research Associate, Jamie Bogart, on Saturday, June 13, for an early morning walk at Demarest Lloyd State Park, at the end of Barney's Joy Road in Dartmouth. Observe a rich variety of bird species, many of which nest within the forest, estuarine border, salt marshes and sand spit habitats that constitute this treasured location. Of particular interest are the endangered shorebirds (piping plover, least tern) of the beach, with many other species expected.
New Bedford, Massachusetts-The 2009 Greater New Bedford Summerfest invites restaurants and food vendors to participate in the festival’s expanded food court. This year’s festival will be held July 3-5, 2009 and includes top names in contemporary and traditional folk music performing on 6 stages. More than 90 talented artisans and craft vendors line the streets and feature a diverse selection of handcrafted goods. Summerfest is one of Southcoast’s most prestigious events and attracts more than 20,000 visitors from across the United States, Canada and beyond.
Fort Taber/Fort Rodman Historical Association, Inc. with the City of New Bedford and the Fairhaven Militia will conduct the Association’s first observance to commemorate Patriots’ Day with the opening of the Stone Fort, Museum Tours and Revolutionary War Encampment.
Provincetown, MA – The public is invited to join Lloyd Center Research Associate, Jamie Bogart, on Saturday, April 18, for a day-long whale and bird-watch adventure on Cape Cod. Participants will spend the day visiting various stops along the Cape Cod National Seashore to view and learn about native seabirds. Habitats visited may include maritime forests, kettle ponds, salt marshes, estuaries, and barrier beaches. Stops at Beech Forest, Herring Cove, and Race Point Beach are planned. With an astounding number (sixty) Right Whales recently cited off Race Point, great shoreline views of whales are expected in addition to the seabirds frequently visible along the outer cape shoreline.

Runners and their supporters of this year’s New Bedford Half Marathon can expect some guest appearances from some national and local celebrities beginning with pre-registration at the YMCA on Saturday afternoon, the day before the March 15th race.  Rick and Dick Hoyt of Team Hoyt and Biggest Loser celebrities Marc and Jay Kruger will be running the 13.1 mile race.  They will also meet and greet runners and their families at pre-registration at the YMCA on Saturday afternoon.  And, two-time Boston Marathon winner and current New Bedford Half Marathon record holder Geoff Smith will also be playing a role in the 32nd running of the Half Marathon. 
Dartmouth, MA – Are you a “night owl”? Then join Lloyd Center Research Associate, Jamie Bogart as he travels the back roads of Dartmouth in search of screech, barred and great-horned owls. February is a great time to see and hear these silent night flyers because they are setting up nesting territories and respond readily to calls.

New Bedford, MA – Hop on board the MV Cuttyhunk and motor out to Cuttyhunk Island with the LLOYD CENTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT in search of wintering seals hauled out on Gull Island, a small sand bar the seals love, located just off Cuttyhunk and Penikese islands. Jamie Bogart, Lloyd Center Research Associate will provide a narrative when the boat arrives at Gull Island. Catch a glimpse of gray and harbor seals, or even ringed, hooded and harp seals. Gray and harbor seals are the most abundant seals in this area. Ringed, hooded and harp seals are known as ice seals and are only seen during the winter months in this region. These seals are called ice seals because their pups are born on the ice floes or the pack ice off the eastern coast of Canada. During the winter, many of these juvenile seals migrate south and are frequently seen along the coast of New England.

The NBPS and the Marine Science Education Center invite the public to a CELEBRATION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the summer Sea Lab program on Sunday, July 6 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the school’s facility on 71 Portland Street in New Bedford’s south end. This open house will gather past students and their families, public officials, and all interested in learning more about the program and its accomplishments over the years.
Scenic Fort Taber Park in New Bedford once again is the backdrop for the SouthCoast’s 2nd Annual Gospel Festival on July 19th from noon until six pm.  Organizers have lined up an impressive slate of national and local musicians to perform at the six-hour festival, including Gospel and rhythm-and-blues legend, Kenny Hamber.  Back by popular demand are Calvin Hunt, Hershey Coles, Tony Small and Kids Lead, Keva Youngblood and visual therapist, Myth.  Local favorites such as Thelma Shirley will be back, as well.
